Xaveer de Geyter, Brasschaat, Belgium, 1993
OfHouses presents “ Solo Albums ”: ”Xaveer de Geyter’s role was incremental to OMA in the 80′s and
early 90′s. The “Zeebrugge Ferry Terminal” (1988), “ZKM Karlsruhe”
(1989), “Très Grande Bibliothèque” (1989) and the “Villa dal’Ava”
(1984-91) would have been inconceivable without the work of de Geyter.
The “House in Brasschaat” (1993), his second built work after he left
OMA, is so much better than OMA’s “Dutch House” (1995), that one starts
to wonder who influenced who when working on a similar program (suburban
bourgeois villa), on matching uneven topographies and with similar
privacy constraints.” (Photos: © Hisao Suzuki, Hans Werleman, Guido Coolens. Source: El Croquis 126, “Xaveer de Geyter, 1992-2005″.)
