Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers, Cusago, Italy, 1970-1974
OfHouses presents “Pritzkers’ First Houses, part III”: Renzo Piano (Pritzker 1998) established the office ‘Piano & Rogers’ in 1970 in partnership with Richard Rogers (Pritzker 2007). At around the same time as their ground breaking scheme for the Centre Georges Pompidou Museum in Paris, they received this little commission to built four cheap, so-called factory houses, in a little village on the outskirts of Milan. By employing a double roof with exposed giant steel trusses, the
interior is freed of any structural limits and the owners enjoy maximum freedom in defining the layout and the look of their space. (Photos: © Richard Einzig. Source: Renzo Piano Building Workshop; Corriere della Sera.)
