Sejima, Kazuyo, Katsuura, Chiba, Japan, 1987-1988

OfHouses presents “Pritzkers’ First Houses”: This is the first house designed by Kazuyo Sejima (Pritzker 2010), right after leaving Toyo Ito’s office and starting out on her own – a little weekend house playing on the concept of space as a ‘station platform’ (flexible, dynamic and noisy) as opposed to traditional spaces that are quiet and static. She will consequently design two more ‘platforms’: one built in Yamanashi in 1990 and one for Tokyo (that remained on the drawing board). (Photos © Tomio Ohashi.
