Harry Gugger, Basel, Switzerland, 1995-96
OfHouses presents “ Solo Albums ”: ”Herzog & de Meuron’s work in the 90′s would not be the same without
Harry Gugger. HdeM’ s masterpieces, from the “Signal boxes I and II”
(1994/1999) to the “Eberswalde University Library” (1999), the “Tate
Modern” (1995-2000) and the “Laban Dance Centre" (1998-2003), all bear Gugger’s signature along his two now more-than-famous partners. The
“House in Bruderholz” (1995), Gugger’s first solo work, is somewhat
disappointing at first, by not relying on HdeM’s trademarks such as
innovative building techniques and experimental finishes. Still, the
apparently boring Swiss box works like a charm; its crystal clear
ingenious organization of the program makes it instantly unforgettable.” (Photos: © Margherita Spiluttini.)
