Philip Johnson, Cambridge, USA, 1942

OfHouses presents “Pritzkers’ First Houses, part V”: The Pritzker prize was created to honor Philip Johnson. He was the first ‘star architect’ and possibly the most influential figure in the field. Johnson shaped the 20th Century architecture history as he pleased. He brought Mies and Gropius in America and at the same time he tried to erase Frank Lloyd Wright from the history books. He was equally loved and despised, but none can deny him being a very good designer. We end our tour of the first houses built by the laureates of the Pritzker prize with the first residence designed by Philip Johnson (Pritzker 1980) as his graduate thesis at the Harvard GSD.
