214. André Bloc & Claude Parent /// Bloc House (Casa del laberinto) /// Carboneras, Almeria, Spain /// 1962 Of Houses guest curated by The Intertwining (Paula V. Álvarez Benítez,

Garrido, Francisco González de Canales, Vincent Morales Garoffolo and
Juan Antonio Sánchez Muñoz): “Unlike Ibiza or Cadaqués, Carboneras is one of the lesser known
Spanish international, alternative and artistic retreats. This remote
fishing Village was the place where André Bloc —and his co-conspirator
Claude Parent— decided to culminate an obsessive set of experiments
between architecture and sculpture. Today most of us can only see “The
Labyrinth” —as it is popularly known— from the outside. It looks like a
cumulous of the very earth of the setting, struggling to rise from the
ground. In times of grey suits and briefcases, redundant paperwork and
glasses on top of the table, Bloc’s experiments should be understood as a
cry for freedom, a matter of repressed expression. But what can be
found inside is calm and neutral, the experience of going down back to
earth and an atavist sense of protection. Perhaps this is the generosity
of form without language, wrapping and delimiting without imposing a
code.” (Text: Francisco González de Canales and Nuria Álvarez Lombardero. Photos 1-10: quijancho, Ernesto Merello Vilar, C. Perez Siquier, sevlarp, Jorge Jimenez Rapallo.)
